A job I missed –
I feel dissed!
Thought I had it –
Didn’t get it!
On employment test scored high
But I’m still left high and dry
They had offered us good pay
Now I don’t know what to say
I was holding onto hope
Now I’m left here just to mope
Yes, my hopes were running high
But they gave me no reply
So it seems I’ve been denied
And the job has passed me by
I can’t help but wonder why
Dammit! ‘Scuse me while I cry…

CONTEXTUAL NOTES: This was posted on Labor Day, which, interestingly enough, is a day off from W-O-R-K, in honor of W-O-R-K! (It’s a 4-letter word.) Most of us hate work, but I can still remember the time when I was passed over for a job that I really wanted, and I thought for sure I was going to get. I ended up writing the above poem, and matching a picture to it…
